Matt R. Knable

Matt Knable is an experienced attorney with a passion for criminal defense and civil litigation. Before joining Banks & Jones, he ran a solo practice helping clients with a wide range of issues, including Criminal Defense, Dependency & Neglect, Conservatorships, and Contracts. He also represented the State of Tennessee in Child Support actions.

Originally from Indiana, Matt spent six years in the United Kingdom before returning to the United States for high school. Interested in advocacy from a young age, he participated in Mock Trial, Debate Club, and the Forensics Team. Matt earned a Bachelor of Arts at Purdue University with a double major in History and Political Science. He moved to Knoxville to attend the Duncan School of Law at Lincoln Memorial University, receiving a Juris Doctor.

Since becoming an attorney, Matt has been active member in state and local bar associations. He served as Co-Chair of the Barristers Volunteer Breakfast Committee for eight years, helping to provide meals for the needy at the Volunteer Ministry Center, earning the President’s Award for this service in 2017 and 2020. Matt also served as the coordinator for Tennessee Bar Association’s Essential Documents for Essential Workers clinics. This program helped provide crucial estate planning documents to first-responders, teachers, nurses and other essential workers throughout the State of Tennessee.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys being outdoors kayaking, gardening, and hiking, and spending time with his wife, Debrah, and their two dogs.
